Executive Secretary Has Been Appointed For Cancer Campaign

Charlottesville, Va., April 6. - Miss Eleanor McK. Gibson, of Charlottesville, has been appointed executive secretary for the Virginia Section of the Women's Field Army of the American Society for the Control of Cancer.

Miss Gibson will also act as secretary for the joint committee of the Women's Field Army and the Virginia Cancer Foundation which is to carry forward a campaign against cancer throughout Virginia during the month of April.

The appointment of Miss Gibson was announced by Dr. Edwin P. Lehman, professor of surgery and gynecology in the University of Virginia Medical School, who is chairman of the executive committee of the Women's Field Army and the Virginia Cancer Foundation.

The Virginia campaign for cancer control is part of a nationwide movement during April, an effort which has the two-fold purpose of educating the public in the prevention, detection and cure of cancer and the collection of funds to care for indigent cancer patients.

Funds collected will be in memberships in the Women's Field Army at $1.00 each, and in larger donations to aid the work. Of each $1.00 membership 30 cents will be sent to the central office of the American Society for the Control of Cancer, while the remaining 70 cents and all larger sums contributed will be retained in Virginia for education and for cancer treatment within the Commonwealth.
