Full Text

Rejected Bills.

The bills of the election clerks for meals while counting the vote were rejected by Auditor Ellis Monday, on the grounds that there was no law authorizing their payment. The Board, however, held that it had been the custom in the State for a quarter of a century to feed the Judges and Inspectors on the best in the market at the expense of the taxpayers, and the bill was accordingly sent back to the Auditor by the Board and the amount was accordingly drawn.

From a strictly legal standpoint the Auditor's action was correct.
