C. Haggerty Named
University Regent

San Francisco.—C. J. Haggerty secretary of the California State Federation of Labor, was appointed to the board of regents of the University of California by Governor Warren.

Haggerty succeeded Herbert Fleishacker, San Francisco financier, whose term had expired.

Warren said that Haggerty is the first representative of organized labor to be named to the board of regents in the history of the university. The appointment is for a term of 16 years.

The federation secretary has served as a member of the State Board of Education since June 20, 1945. He had previously served as a member of the State Personnel Board, being appointed to that position by Governor Culbert Olson.
