BAIL FOR NAN PATTERSON

Wheeling, W. Va., Men Offer to Go on Her Bond. Up to $50,000 If Necessary

New York, Dec. 29.—Nan Patterson, the former show girl, who is in the Tombs prison charged with the murder of "Caesar" Young, is in better spirits than at any time since the second jury which heard the testimony in her case reported that it was unable to agree on a verdict. She believed, she said, that the freedom for which she has longed for more than six months was about to be granted. Telegrams had come from Wheeling, W. Va., announcing that prominent men in that city were prepared to offer bail for her in any amount up to $50,000. Her bail may be delayed several months.

Fairmont, W. Va., Dec. 29.—P. A. Deveny, one of the wealthiest men in this city, confirms a report that he, H. J. Brice, Edward Slack and C. W. Swisher will offer to go on Nan Patterson's bond to the extent of $50,000 if necessary, because they believe her innocent of the crime with which she is charged.
