Full Text

A Hopeless Minority.

Several years ago a prominent physician of this county was called to the bedside of a gentleman in Jackson county sick with fever. A revival meeting was in progress in the neighborhood of the sick one, and the doctor concluded he would attend after administering the physic. He was late on his arrival at the church and had to take a front seat. The preacher preached a rattling good sermon, and had the people considerably wrought up. As he closed he stated that he wanted every person in the house who desired to go to heaven to rise. All stood up except the doctor. "All have arisen but one man," said the man of God. "I will put the reverse of the position. All who want to go to hell will please rise." The doctor arose, looking around, and as he saw no one standing except himself and the minister, he exclaimed: "Be Gad! parson, we are in a helpless minority." This convulsed the whole house, and virtually broke up the revival, as none even went to the mourner's seat afterwards.—Walton News.
