Full Text

Found Guilty.—In the case of Rev. Mr. Fairchild, accused of the seduction of Rhoda Davidson, the Ecclesiastical Council, sitting at Exeter, have brought in a verdict of guilty. The evidence proved the clerical gentleman to be a hypocritical scoundrel and thorough debauchee.

These cases of clerical delinquency are increasing in number lately at a fearful extent, and their manifest tendency is to weaken the bonds of religion and morality in the community generally. Although such depravity is no argument against religion, yet in its effects it will be the same as if it were ; and consequently the punishment should be as notorious and striking as the evil example.
