"Why worry, it doesn't get you any place," says L. G. Hollifield of near Nebo. "I don't worry any more," he recently explained, "about whether we will have much rain in the summer. I am storing up in winter most of the water the crop will need anyway. I grow a little of this and a little of that and all together the land is producing about ten to one what it once did." Hollifield states that the cropping system that he is following is due the credit for taking the worry off him. First he terraced the land. Then as a further precaution he set up a cropping system in contour strips-one strip in a row crop and two in a sowed crop, changed each year and managed so that one full cover crop is turned back to the land every three years.

U. L. Wilson of Route 1, Old Fort and J. R. Jimison of Route 4, Marion, are making the necessary preparations to arrange a cropping system set up in contour strips on their farms this spring. The Soil Conservation Service personnel recently assisted these farmers in running lines for the contour strips.

"Long, narrow fields on the level save soil, water, soil fertility and power."
