FAYETTEVILLE, N. C. - At its recent annual meeting in the J. W. Seabrook auditorium at the Fayetteville State Teachers College, the Omega Beta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, under the leadership of Evelyntyne Humphrey, junior of Roxboro, N. C., named as "Woman of the Year" Edna Fuller of 518 McDaniel Street in Fayetteville.
The speaker for the occasion was Phyllis O'Kelley, instructor at the Jane Porter Barrett School in Peeksville, Virginia. She was introduced by Mae Rudd Williams, Basileus of the Gamma Upsilon Zeta Chapter of the local Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. The plaque was presented to Mrs. Fuller by Basileus Evelyntyne Humphrey of Omega Beta.
Mrs. Fuller has the distinction of being the founder of the Fayetteville School for Exceptional Children. Mrs. Fuller has always had an impulse for humanity. Her trips to the old folks' home with her parents in Norfolk, Virginia at the age of 7 probably helped to determine the direction of her work, although she was inclined toward the profession of a teacher and that of a foreign missionary. A mother of five children (one of them a minister), the wife of a minister, an ardent worker in the community and in the church, and a woman whose sympathies go out for those in need, Mrs. Fuller fully qualifies for the "Woman of the Year" in the Fayetteville community.
The Omega Beta sorority was organized in 1950 and now has a membership of 18 young women. The present corps of officers are Evelyntyne Humphrey, junior of Roxboro, N. C., President; Florine Steadman, junior of Wade, N. C., Vice President; Ruth McAllister, junior of Raeford, N. C., Secretary; Bettye R. Allen, junior of Lillington, N. C., Treasurer; Johnnie P. Murphy, junior of Godwin, N. C., Journalist; Margaret Evans and Mary Dunham, juniors of Fayetteville, N. C., Representatives to the Student Council; Aunie M. Hutchinson, sophomore of Bervar, N. C. and Rosa Foreman of Farmville N. C., Representatives to the Pan-Hellenic Council.
Lois P. Turner of the Area of English is the faculty advisor.
