Event Details
His Majesty nominated the Prelates: Cardinal de Tencin (lately returned from his Archbishopric, dangerously ill), Archbishop of Paris, Archbishop of Saumur, Bishop of Sens, and late Bishop Mirepoix to form the Commission for judging religious differences and controversies. Of the Magistrates to be joint members, only the Chancellor and first President of the Chamber of Accounts are appointed. Prelates remonstrated against lay coadjutors as an impropriety or indignity to the priesthood, arguing religion should be lodged with ecclesiastics only.
