Full Text

The proposition suggested by Lieutenant George D. Allen of holding the annual encampment of the state militia at Peterson's Point (Westport beach) is a most excellent one, and if accepted by the military authorities, will result beneficially not only to the Point but to the whole Harbor, as the assemblage of such a body of men will induce many excursions from the Sound, and the people who come cannot but be pleased with our section of the country. East of the mountains the members of the militia have few opportunities to enjoy the sea breezes and bathing, and the close proximity of the camp to the seashore will be an added inducement for them to attend this year.

This is the nearest and most accessible ocean beach to the inland cities of the state, and once known it will soon become the most popular summer resort. By all means let us secure the encampment.
