A SCOUNDREL AT LARGE.—A convict named James Guthrie, a Scotchman, about 60 years of age, made his escape on Saturday before last from the State Prison at Trenton, N. J. Guthrie, who formerly resided in Morgan street Jersey City, was convicted in the Hudson County Court in October, 1860, of an attempted incest and murder of his daughter, about 15 years of age, and was sentenced to the State Prison for ten years by Judge Ogden. Guthrie made the attempt upon the chastity and life of his daughter in his own house while his wife and children were up stairs to bed, and failing, he took a razor and cut a gash in his throat from ear to ear and severing the windpipe, causing, as was supposed at the time, a fatal wound, but from which he subsequently recovered. He, together with a German, effected their escape from the prison by taking out the iron grating of the window by drilling around it in the wall. The German, whose name is Henry Mathes, while descending the wall, in consequence of the rope giving away, broke his ankle, and being disabled, was arrested.
