Full Text

Between 8 & 10 o'clock on Tuesday night,
as a man and his wife were returning home,
in Catherine street, near Second, they were
met by an unknown person in a sailor's habit, who ordered him to stop, and immediately
discharged a pistol at the man and then
made off. The explosion alarmed the neighbourhood. The man was conducted home,
and upon examination it appeared that one
or two slugs had entered just under the left
nipple, and lodged near the spinal bone. Medical
assistance was called in; but it is feared,
from the direction of the slugs, that he
will not survive. The wife had her hand
and arm considerably mangled by the discharge.

Vigilant search is making for the apprehension
of the perpetrator of this nefarious
act. From a clue found near the spot
where the deed was committed, it is supposed
the villain used a horse pistol. Phil. Gaz.

We understand a Fellow has been arrested
on suspicion of having been the perpetrator
of the above horrid deed.
