Savannah, Oct. 12, 1813.
We have seen a gentleman just from
Jones county, from whom we learn, that
on the 5th inst. an express from Fort
Hawkins reach Gen. Floyd, who was
with the troops, encamped this side of
that place, giving the sad intelligence
that a body of Indians had attacked the
escort and taken the whole of the pro-
visions on the way to the Creek Agen-
cy for the expedition destined against
them. On receipt of the news, Gen.
Floyd immediately dispatched 300
horse and three companies of infantry
in pursuit of the Indians. Our inform-
ant further states, that on his way down
to this place, it was reported that the
detachment had overtaken the Indians
and retaken the provisions. We hope
this report is true.
