Full Text

We claim it for Nevada.—In the Scientific American of Feb. 11th, is a cut of what is called Hopkins' Improved Marine Locomotive. The cut represents a steam vessel with tub wheels made buoyant to support the weight of the vessel and load above the water, so that the only resistance to the progress of the vessel is confined to the wheels. We claim the idea to have first originated in this city. Mr. John Pattison, telegraph operator, conceived the idea long ago, and more than a year since built, with the assistance of Mr. Thos. Green, an engineer, an experimental article of the kind which was seen by dozens of citizens. After trying it, Mr. Patterson addressed Messrs. Munn & Co., asking their opinion which was soon forthcoming and not favorable. The model was laid aside therefore. Messrs. Munn & Co. now say of essentially the thing that it is a remarkable instance of boldness of thought, &c.—Nevada Journal.
