To Land Money,
This money amounted to $11,181.36, and lay many years in the U. S. Treasury, subject to the order of New Hampshire; but the Loco Foco administrations here refused, session after session, to receive it. When the Allies came into power, they embraced the earliest occasion to carry out the will of the people, and sent on to Washington and obtained the money. On the 14th of June last, Mr. Peverly paid every cent of it over to Mr. Atwood, and has his receipt.
On the last of June, or first of July, Mr. Lane, Senator from the Sixth District, stated in his place that the whole of this $11,181.36 was spent! The question is frequently asked, To what use was the money applied? Certainly, it was not distributed amongst the towns for educational purposes, because that proposition was rejected. Indeed, we think this very proposition was before the Senate when Mr. Lane made proclamation that the money was all gone. Will Senator Lane, or either of the Radical papers, enlighten the public as to the purpose to which this large sum was applied?
