Full Text

Barnum,

New York, November 5.—Among the prepared specials which Chairman Barnum sent to the press all over the country, prior to the election, was one claiming that they had absolute proof that Morey received from Garfield the pro-Chinese letter. Note the fact that no such proof has been attempted, and that Hurlbut testified that the letter came to himself anonymously through the mail. The evidence accumulates that said letter was never mailed from Washington nor received at Lynn. Although the election is over, the case has an interest as showing the depth of villainy to which some political managers will stoop in the hope of fooling and cheating the people.
