A fleet halfback, Flash Davis is the recipient of three letters in football. He also is a three letter man in track. As a result of his athletic prowess, he has established himself as one of the better all-round competitors in the SIAC.

EXPERIENCED HALFBACK

The agile 170 pounds, 5'10 1/2" halfback experienced one of his better season on the gridiron in 1954. He averaged an outstanding 10.8 yards per try. Against the formidable Johnson C. Smith Bulldogs, Charlotte, N. C., Davis gained 237 yards as he consistently spearheaded the Maroon Tigers to a 20-0 victory.

Local fans will probably remember the erstwhile performance of "The Flash" during Morehouse's 1954 Homecoming celebration against Fisk University. Flash returned a Fisk punt for 51 yards and lay dirt, thus making the Homecoming game a victorious one for the Maroon Tigers.

GREATEST THRILL

The greatest thrill in the football career of Mr. Flash took place last year in Charlotte, N. C. when he hauled in a punt against Johnson C Smith on his own six yard line and returned it for 94 yards and a touchdown. This run marked one of the longest in collegiate football circles.

Upon completion of the 1955 football season, Willie J. Davis will focus his eyes on the forthcoming track season. A great runner, Flash hopes that the '56 track season will be just as spectacular as '55. As a sprinter and captain of the Morehouse College cinderman. Davis runs the 100 yard dash, the 220, and, at times he runs on the relay team. In the 1954 SIAC Track and Field Meet. Flash came in first in the 100 yard dash with a time of 9.8 seconds. In the '55 Conference meet. Willie J. had no intentions of rendering his title to anyone else. As a result, Davis came flying home as a winner for the second straight year with the same previous time, 9.8 seconds. That was not all. Before the day had terminated, Flash also had placed second in the 220 with a time of 21.5.

Come September 1955 and a determined Willie James Davis will begin his senior year at Morehouse College as one of the better athletes ever to set his foot on the Old Red Hill.

That is a broad statement: it covers a lot of ground - as much ground as Flash expects to cover as a fleet halfback under the careful tutelage of Head Football Coach James Pinky Haines.
