Dairymen to Tour Bitter Root Valley

Through Geo. A. Woolley, extension agent of Lake county, it is announced that the dairymen of this county will on June 26 and 27 make a tour of inspection through the Bitter Root valley.

"This tour is planned," says the announcement, "not because Ravalli county excels Lake county in breeding, management or equipment, but because it is usually of interest to see what our neighbors are doing and most of us are well acquainted with local dairy farm conditions. For this reason the Bitter Root tour should prove of interest as many have been planning to see that country."

The tour consisting of twelve stops has been planned to show pure bred and grade herds under different systems of management. Different types of equipment will also be shown and in fact something outstanding will be shown at every stop.

The program as planned is starting from Ronan at 8:30 on June 26th so as to reach the Ford & Kollister place at Darby at 1:30 for a picnic lunch provided by Mr. Nickel who is in charge of this ranch. The management of a pure blood Holstein herd under ideal conditions will be shown here and also a drawing will be held for the 4-H Calf Club boys of Lake county for a pure bred Holstein heifer calf which is to be given away free to the lucky boy.

From there the tour will be as follows:

Otis Lyndes ..........Grade Jerseys
C. P. Frost ........Purebred Jerseys
Archie McKillop & Son....Grade and Purebred Jerseys and Dairy Equipment.
D. C. Gray & Son......Purebred Holsteins and Dairy Equipment.

The night will be spent at Hamilton. Dinner will be provided by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, as well as the evening's entertainment.

Starting the next morning the tour will proceed down the valley to the following arranged places of interest:

C. B. Taylor and Daw Brothers..Results obtained from use of proven sire on grade herds.
Mark D. Fitzgerald..Purebred Guernseys and dairy equipment.
David Lea & Son..Purebred Guernseys and dairy equipment.
Joseph Fetscher....Big Type Guernseys.

A drive will also be made through the well-known "Daley Estate" and through the McIntosh-Morello Orchard Company farm, where hog production is being undertaken on a large scale.

J. Q. Tretsven, dairy specialist, of Bozeman, will be in attendance on this tour and effort is being made to secure some of the fieldmen of the different breed associations.

This tour will be of enough importance that special effort should be made to take part even if it conflicts with some haying operations.
