Full Text
And, then, there is Mr. Meade, a co-operator of Mr. Seddon and a political bed-fellow of Joshua Giddings, Esq., a free-soil ruffian from Ohio. This man was once a Whig, but he turned Abolitionist, and losing his party affinities at the same time, he became a Democrat. Since then he has been a shining light in that Church. We trust to be forgiven for this biographical digression, for we wished to show what sort of company Mr. Meade keeps in Congress—we do not mean in private, of course, for we have nothing to do with that, but who are his associates when he comes to vote upon questions of Southern rights. Poor Tray was hung for being found in bad company, and we think that if the people intent on justice were to take Mr. Seddon and Mr. Meade in hand, they would be condemned to a political execution for standing upon the same platform with this Giddings. Verily the times do make strange bed-fellows of men. We cannot now say more of Mr. Meade, but will take our leave of him with a promise, such as we have given Mr. Seddon, his coadjutor and co-partner. We have entered a general creditor and debtor account with all the five gentlemen above referred to—at present we admit the balance to be against us, but we trust to be able some day to pay the debt—Rich. Whig
