Steeb's Homer Leads HS-5, FSS, Hospital, NOU Win Navy Tilts

Undefeated Helicopter Squadron Five (HS-5) continued along the win trail last night in the feature game in the Navy's Admiral's Trophy Softball League.

The Helicopter club beat a good Naval Air Station nine by a score of 9 - 3.

The other games found the Naval Hospital beating Mine Evaluation Detachment in a runaway, by a score of 30 to 7, the Naval Ordnance Unit nine winning a close 13 - 10 decision from the Underwater Swimmers' School and the Fleet Sonar School slugged out an easy 18 to 1 victory over the Marines.

In the main game, HS-5 came up with a total of just six off losing hurler Adcock, but took advantage of five walks, three hit batters and five errors to pile up their nine runs. Cassely hit a triple and Steeb came through with a home run from the winners,

Steeb's blow being responsible for D'Oria gave up just four hits and walked five in his mound stint. He was also the only player in the game to be credited with two hits, which gave him a pair of runs batted in.

The Naval Hospital batters enjoyed their big night at the plate, crashing hits to all corners of the field in downing the Mine Evaluation Detachment nine by a 30 to 7 score.

The Naval Ordnance Unit club experienced difficulty in beating the Underwater Swimmers' School by a score of 13 - 10. In this game, Donahoe, NOU outfielder, was the big gun. In two official trips to the plate, he banged out a triple and a homer, knocking over four runs.

The winners collected nine hits and the losers were held in check by Burman and Byrd, the winners' pitchers. Six of the Swimmers collected one hit each.

In the final game of last night, the Fleet Sonar School nine breezed to an easy 18 to 1 win over the ever-trying Marines.

First baseman Williams banged three hits in four tries for the Sonar School club, knocking in six runs. One of the blows was a four-ply wallop. Goodman hit a long with a homer. The Sonar School nine came up with a total of eleven hits, while the losers got five off the deliveries of Fenner.

Ten Marine errors in the field helped pile up the big score.

Play in the Navy's Admiral's Trophy Softball League continues tonight with four games scheduled. Three teams in the 15 club circuit - HS-5, ZX-11 and FAW-11 remain undefeated in league competition.
