Production, Preparation, and Distribution for Profitable Selling
Get Attention Farmers' Week.
Clemson College, Aug. 16.
Profitable selling of farm products will be the keynote of the program of the marketing division of Farmers' Week here August 29-September 3 according to Geo. E. Prince, chief of the division.
Mr. Prince will be aided by his assistants, L. H. Lewis and C. A. Owens; Miss Jane Ketchen, market specialist of Winthrop College; Messrs. Derrick, and Slocum, of the U. S. Bureau of Agricultural Economics; T. B. Young, manager of Carolina Cooperatives Consolidated, and others.
"How to Determine What Crops to Grow" will be discussed by Mr. Prince so as to drive home the truth that production at a profit hinges on demand, and that knowing what will sell is the first step in knowing what to produce.
Standardization of crops, grading and packing of products, methods of marketing, and cooperative selling are other themes that will receive careful attention. Subjects already listed for discussion in the marketing program are:
Wednesday Morning—(1) "Inspection and Standardization of South Carolina Crops," (2) "Progress of Fruit and Vegetable Cooperatives in Other States."
Wednesday Afternoon—(1) "The Roadside Market," (2) "The preparation of Fruits and Vegetables for Market." (3) "Grading and Packing Irish Potatoes."
Thursday Morning—(1) "The Cooperative Marketing Potatoes, Berries and Sweet Potatoes in South Carolina," (2) "The Curb Market for the Disposal of Surplus Farm Products," (3) "Egg Grading, Candling and Packing."
Thursday Afternoon "Pecans, Grading, Sizing and Varieties."
Friday Morning—"How to Determine What Crops to Grow."
Friday Afternoon—(1) "Grading and Packing Fruits and Vegetables," (2) "Grading, Candling, and Packing of Eggs."
