We have lived to see such wonderful political changes in Europe within the last quarter of a century, that it must indeed be a phenomenon of a very extraordinary nature that can now excite our astonishment; and yet such a phenomenon is by no means improbable. Whilst the faithless and bigoted holy alliance are resolved, if possible, to compel Spain to substitute absolute power, and the terrors of the Inquisition, for their present free and glorious constitution, the policy of the English ministers fortunately inclines them to favor the cause of human happiness and political regeneration. That the British government have protested against the menaced invasion of Spain, is a subject of general notoriety; although it has been a matter of conjecture, whether our ministers will or will not confine themselves to a mere diplomatic remonstrance, should their interference prove fruitless. The precise views of our cabinet towards Spain are not yet developed; but we are inspired with the most cheering hopes that they will act in a manner worthy of the high and chivalrous character of our country at the proudest period of her history. From the note addressed to the Portuguese government by England, we may infer, that England will "lend to Portugal all the succour of which she may stand in need, as often as its independence may be menaced." she will not withhold similar assistance from Spain, under similar circumstances. If the Allied Despots, therefore, should dare to profane the Spanish territory with their ruthless troops, it is not impossible that the Duke of Wellington, who so successfully opposed the invasion of the French, under the illegitimate Napoleon, may be called upon, to drive the troops of the legitimate Louis back to their own country, should the Spaniards fail to cut them to pieces without foreign aid.

The Holy Alliance aims to restore absolute power and the Inquisition in Spain, replacing its free constitution. British government has protested the threatened invasion. Speculation on whether UK will limit to diplomatic remonstrance or provide aid similar to that pledged to Portugal. Hopes that UK will act chivalrously, possibly with Duke of Wellington repelling French troops under Louis XVIII if Spaniards cannot.
