CAPTURE OF THE WASP.

We understand a letter is in town, dated Fayetteville, stating the capture off Edisto Inlet of the United States' ship of war Wasp, by the Lacedemonian frigate. The action is said to have lasted two hours. We sincerely hope this may prove without foundation.

Wilmington (N. C.) Gaz.

[We understand that Admiral Cockburn stated that on his passage from Bermuda, he spoke a vessel, from which he obtained information that the Wasp had been taken off Charleston after a bloody conflict. Taking this in connection with the other reports in circulation, there is some ground to apprehend that the Wasp is captured—Ed. Ld.]
