The entertainments at the courthouse were a success in a financial point of view. About fifty dollars was realized—sufficient to pay off every cent of the band's indebtedness. This organization can now boast of having, clear of debt, the finest set of instruments in Southeast Missouri, and a band-wagon worth $200.

Since its organization in July 1877, the band has disbursed not less than $500. Much of this was secured through the aid and general good-will of the community, as expressed in patronizing the various picnics, balls and entertainments gotten up for its benefit, and a large proportion has been raised by means of dues, etc., from the members themselves.
