The Courier des Etats Unis contains the French Poet Lamartine's account of a visit recently paid by him to the celebrated Lady Hester Stanhope, whose long residence among the Arabs and influence over them are among the most curious incidents of the age. Lamartine, after giving a poet's description of her past career, thus adds, what may be called a poet's vision of her probable future ;—"I should not be surprised if some near day should realise a part of the destiny she promises to herself—an empire in Arabia and a throne in Jerusalem. The least political commotion in the region she inhabits might raise her to this."
