PROBABLY BILLION DOLLARS IN TAXES PAID SATURDAY

Washington, March 17,-Until late Saturday night federal revenue collectors offices throughout the country were busy receiving eleventh hour income tax returns, due Saturday at latest, and accepting payments of the 25 per cent first installment.

Collectors reported they were submerged beneath a flood of documents, checks and money orders, and it would take several days to prepare even a tentative tabulation of receipts.

Treasury officials calculated the probable inflow of tax money at somewhere between $800,000,000 and $1,000,000,000.
