The Daughters of the Confederacy fittingly observed last Sunday in honor of the Confederate dead. A large crowd went out to Maplewood cemetery to help decorate and hear the annual address.
Mr. J. C. O'Daniel began the day of tribute by sounding the bugle call which was answered by the sweet song, "Rock of Ages," sung by Durham's best singers. Rev. N. M. McIver, one of the heroes in war, offered prayer, and Mayor Grahame spoke earnestly of the day and the dead. He was followed by Mr. W. J. Brogden of the Durham
