It fills a whole column in the Every Evening, close print, and contains as a matter of course the regulation promises of candidates. of fidelity, disinterestedness intention to serve the best interest of the people &c. He states in the onset that he had fears his candidacy would jeopardize the success of the party, but when the Convention by an overwhelming majority on the first ballot declared in favor of his nomination, he could not mistake a voice so clear and unmistakable, and if elected governor, will distribute the patronage at his disposal irrespective of their past affiliations.

He disclaims against the McKinley Tariff and Force bills as twin schemes born of Republican malevolence and duplicity, wants the Federal affairs restored to the Democrats. thinks the time has come for a new Constitution in Delaware and is in favor of the Australian ballot law to counteract the lavish use of money whereby the ballot is made a mere merchantable commodity.
