County 4-H Camp Is Concluded In Ceremony Friday

The 4-H Candlelighting service Friday evening was the last main activity of the Madison County 4-H Club Camp, Robert Eby reported.

Mary Kay Dillingham and Don Barr were the two chosen as camp counselors; Wilson were chosen at Head H's; spirits; Ruth Cushman and George Patty Houck and David Smith as Heart H's; Nancy Hanscel and Richard Dunkle as Hand H's; and Sue Garrett and Bob Smith from Canaan as Health H's.

These club members, plus the following were honored as extra good campers during the candlelighting program: Emblem awards: Alvin Dorn, Bob Brown, Norman Dorn, David Ward, Anna Reder, Carolyn Coy, Bob Smith from South Solon, Carol Converse, Richard Meeker, Joan Boss, Gay Engle and Donna Anderson.

Receiving Honorable Mention were: Norman Fell, John Overturf, Jim Anthony, Kathy Wheeler, John Wilson, Marlene Leslie, Connie Gallagher, Ted Hankins, Tommy Reed, Rita Miller, Judy Hurt, George Norris, Raymond Justice, Bob Phleger, Shirley Overturf, Judy Packer, Helen Boerger, Harriet Rosnagle, Larry Rothwell, Wayne Dillion, Joyce Paulin, Carl Vallery, Charlene Hennis, Sue Egelhoff, Paulette Oyler.

Special guests and speakers during the week were Mrs. Vernon Royce, County Health Nurse, who talked to the Councillors and the entire group on health habits in group living; Don Herr, Associate Agr'l. Agent in Pickaway County showed colored slides and talked about his stay in Brazil last year on the International Foreign Youth Exchange program; Rev. Harley Bennett, London, talked to the group during the Thursday evening Vesper program on "Making the Most of Your Life."

Gerhart Seibert, 17 year old boy from Germany, was in camp from Thursday evening till Saturday morning. He is on the International Foreign Youth Exchange program and will attend Canaan High School this coming year as a Senior. He will then return to Germany.

The success of the 4-H camping program was due to the help of the councillors. They were: Phil Garrett, Harley Dement, Teddy Meeker, Bob Sullivan, Jim Thompson, Mary Lee Brown, Katherine Hern, Eileen Overturf, Eileen Boerger, Linda Peck, Janet Reed, Carolyn Vallery, Delores Phillips, Martha Sells and Arlene Dunkle.

Extension Agents attending were: Robert L. Eby, Associate Agricultural Agent; Helen Stahl, Home Demonstration Agent and John E. Moore, County Agricultural Agent.
