TRAINING FOR ARMY
A letter has been received from
Rct. Donna M. Sullivan WA 820
4346, Wac Detachment 3rd. Arm-
ored Division Ft. Knox. Ky., at
the Springfield, Recruiting
Station.
Rct. Sullivan is the daughter of
Mrs. Elizabeth Terry of Newport
near London.
Rct. Sullivan enlisted in the
Wac Corp 18 August 1950. She
was sworn in the Regular Army
at Ft. Hayes Columbus. and sent
to Ft. Lee, Virginia for her basic
training. Rct. Sullivan states that
the first three weeks was spent in
processing and taking tests to
find out just what she was best
suited for in the service.
The clothing issue consisted of
three (3) winter uniforms, over-
coat, raincoat, slacks, two (2)
pairs of dress shoes, one (1) pair
of field boots. six (6) pairs of ny-
lon hose, dress gloves, scarf.
brown leather gloves with wool
inserts, six caps and two (2) ties.
Basic training consisted of the
usual marching, learning to drill,
and all the Regulation on Army
life. The basic training lasted for
13 weeks, Also the Detachment
she is in had to go on the range
and learn to fire the Armys
.30
caliber carbine.
After basic training was over
Rct. Sullivan was sent to the cler-
ical school at Ft. Knox, Ky. where
she is now stationed. Rct. Sullivan
is among the first group to wear
the third Army Div. shoulder
patch whose daring exploits earn-
ed for it the nickname Spearhead
Division.
