Full Text

History teaches us that all Republics which have heretofore existed, were in their early existence, pure and uncorrupted; that so long as they continued in the path marked out by their founders, they were prosperous and happy. History also teaches us that they have all fallen. And why? We answer, they have all fallen into corruption. Uninterrupted prosperity brings wealth; wealth, luxury; luxury, corruption; corruption, aristocracy; aristocracy, monarchy.

Against all these evils this Order will maintain incessant warfare. One object of the Order is to preserve our institutions pure and uncontaminated, as transmitted to us by our forefathers; and to perpetuate the same. To hand them down in their primitive simplicity, from father to son, from generation to generation, and to avoid, if possible the fate of all Republics which have preceded us.
