WENDELL P. DABNEY
Wendell P. Dabney, born November
4, 1865, at Richmond, Va. Son
of John Dabney, caterer, and Elizabeth
Foster Dabney. The fifth of
nine children. Graduate of high
school, teacher for several years,
and later student of Oberlin College,
Ohio. Married Mrs. Nellie
Foster Jackson in 1897. Assistant
paymaster and later head paymaster
of the Treasury of the City of
Cincinnati, Ohio. Hundreds of employees
worked under him. Served in
the above capacity for 25 years
(1898-1923). His collection of books
and prints on the Negro is one of
the finest in America. At the present
he is editor of the Cincinnati
Union.
