Full Text
The individual selected--the Rev. James H. Otey, of Franklin--is well-known in Tennessee, and is highly esteemed wherever known, for his high intellectual powers, his classical and scientific attainments, his ardent zeal for the good of the church, his self-devotion and disinterested labor in its behalf, and his exemplary life and conversation as a minister of the gospel. The Episcopal Church has been gaining ground in this state with great rapidity for a few years past; new congregations have been formed in many places; and the forms and institutions for the church have been introduced where not at all previously known. The election of a bishop will, no doubt, have a favorable and important influence in aiding the further extension of the church.
