HSINKING, Manchukuo, Aug. 26. (UP).—Nine Russians, allegedly members of a secret Communist organization known as the "Soviet storm troops," were executed near Hailar, Hsingan province, Japanese Kwantung (Continental) army headquarters has announced.
Twenty-eight other Russians, allegedly members of the same organization, were imprisoned for indefinite terms.
"The prisoners were convicted of audacious subversive maneuvers," a Japanese army communique, disclosing that the executions occurred on August 21, said.
"The organization was active in Northwest Hsingan province. It was discovered in June. A roundup of its members began on July 10 and resulted in 37 indictments.
"The storm troopers were planning to take up arms in event of hostilities between the countries concerned (Japan and the Soviet Union). They intended to facilitate the Red army's operations by attacking Japanese and Manchukuo military and other public offices. They planned murder, plunder and incendiarism as well as other acts of violence."
Most of the 28 imprisoned Russians, it was understood, will remain in jail for 20 years.
