Street Fight.

Saturday night, Newton Wimer, brother of the late postmaster at this city, had an altercation in the street with Jno. S. Thomas, Broker, of the firm of Benoist & Co. Pistols were drawn but not used. This afternoon the parties met in front of the Planters' Hotel; Wimer began shooting at Thomas, and Thomas at Wimer—nine shots were fired. Thomas was shot in the heart, the ball glancing round. Wimer then rushed on Thomas, beating him with a colt. While doing this Thomas shot Wimer through the body. The wound is considered dangerous, if not mortal. Thomas may recover, though danger is apprehended from the blows on the head. The cause of the quarrel was, that some months since Thomas failed to receive a large remittance by mail, and charged the post office with fraud. Wimer was a clerk in the office, and spat in Thomas' face.

Wimer, shot by Thomas last night, is dead.— Facts have come to light exonerating Wimer from the charge brought by Thomas which led to the quarrel. Thomas will recover.
