THE TEACHERS.

The teachers of the public schools held their first institute last Saturday evening at the office of Superintendent Kemble, which was well attended. The proceedings were of an informal character, as it was intended as a meeting to organize for the season's work. The superintendent gave numerous directions as to the conduct of the different schools, which it is thought will prove of general benefit. It was decided that the next meeting will be devoted to a consideration of the plans and theories of teaching as taught by Pestalozzi and Froebel.

THE SCHOOLS.

The public schools opened this morning with a large attendance of pupils. This roster of teachers and their buildings is appended:

Building No. 1. - M. A. Cooke, principal; F. S. Nouse, A. F. Cooke, Lou. J. Philp, E. P. Robinson, Dollie Kale, Sallie Johnston, Jennie A. Kane, Lou. J. Conway, Abbie Dean and Madge Osmonde.

No. 2. - I. M. Plehn and Maggie Repine.

No. 3. - L. M. Copp, principal; Anna Frantz, Idessa Wakefield and Mary Bowen.

No. 4. - W. H. Hatch, principal; Annetta Bowman, Ida K. Osmonde, Agnes Nessen sen. C. M. Briggs, Ira Platt, A. Crawford, Nellie Walker, Carrie Culver, B. Cavanaugh, Daisy Hardy and A. J. Lloyd.

No. 5. - Lucy Asby, principal; Ella Eagan, Emily Freeland and Lulu Churchill.
