NO BEER MADE AFTER DEC. 1

Washington, D. C., Sept. 7.--Nationwide prohibition was a step nearer today as a result of the adoption by the senate last night of the emergency agricultural appropriation bill with its dry rider and the announcement of the food department that the president would exercise his wartime authority to prohibit the manufacture of beer after December 1 next.

Under the federal amendment the manufacture of both beer and wine would be prohibited after May 1, 1919, until the American troops are demobilized, and the sale of intoxicants would be prohibited after July 1.

Under the president's order only wine may be manufactured after December 1.
