In consequence of the new Plan adopted by the Board of Admiralty, for laying the whole Navy of England under a thorough Inspection, our Workmen in the Dock Yards are busy in exploring the Plank and Timber of all the Men of War laid up since the Peace ; and in order to remove every Thing which may be the least conducive to Rottenness, the inside Lining is opened in divers Places, and every Part well washed from the upper Deck to the Keel, and afterwards the whole Ship well fumigated with burning Tar : This not only removes that disagreeable Vapour so frequent in old Ships but also prevents the Timbers from rotting, and is a special Antidote for the Scurvy. We are employed in bringing out 5 Frigates, which are said to be destined for Newfoundland.
