Supreme Court Decides Basement Saloons Violation of Mulct Law.
Des Moines, June 19.--Fifteen Des Moines saloons will be closed this week as a result of a recent decision handed down by the supreme court of Iowa after an appeal taken on injunction proceedings, requiring the closing down of a basement saloon adjacent to the postoffice.
The supreme court decided that basement saloons are in violation of the mulct law, that partitions erected within fifty feet of the property of those objecting cannot be made a means of getting around the statutes.
The closing of these saloons is being aided by the Iowa Anti-Saloon League, and has the sanction of Mayor Mattern, who coincides with the opinion of the supreme court against the building of partitions to get around the law.
