Full Text

Rhode Island:—A worthy effort is making to rescue this State from the hands of the Burenites. The Providence Journal thus discourses in relation to her vote on the Presidency:

"Whatever may be thought and said abroad of Rhode Island, she has never yet voted for Martin Van Buren, and what is more, she never will. The grounds of this statement we mean to explain at another time. Sufficient it is to add at the present, that the exertions made by the Whigs in other States have made a deep impression here, and that the members of the Whig party, seeing what energy and zeal may effect, are resolved that they will follow the example in North Carolina and the other States which have thrown off the yoke of Toryism."
