Full Text

The Orphan's Wish.

Oh! Father of the fatherless
Redeeming, holy one,
Renew in me forgotten vows
And own me as thine own.

Assist me with thy boundless might
And never-erring skill,
When fell temptations me assail,
To triumph by thy will.

Let holy thoughts my mind employ,
My lips in thankfulness.
Mine hands thy holy will to do,
My feet aid helplessness.

Grant me a meek, submissive mind,
A trusting confidence,
That I thy sovereign will may own,
By calm obedience.

Teach me with wisdom from on high
To zealous, ardent love,
In songs to celebrate thy name
As angels do above.

With love to Thee, Oh! thou me fill—
Good will to all mankind—
'Tis this that paid the priceless price
And bids all "seek and find."

Accept of me, Oh! gracious Lord—
The orphan's whisper hear—
And waft me to thy blissful home,
For I am lonely here.

FANNIE.
