ANOTHER MURDER!!

The blood of another victim calls upon the conservators of justice and the public safety, for the prompt employment of the means confided to them for the protection of the lives and property of their fellow citizens. The vengeance of the law should no longer sleep—a terrible example is demanded.

We learn, that Mr. JOHN W. HAYES, another respectable citizen, was shot in the vicinity of the Great Bridge, near Black Water, on Tuesday night last. While eating his supper with his family, a gun was discharged at him through the window, and its contents penetrated his breast—he fell to rise no more. The miscreant is believed to have been an outlying negro, one of those wretches to whom, only a few days since, we called the attention of the magistrates of the county; it remains for them to say if such atrocities shall be longer tolerated. Great God! shall such acts be perpetrated in the bosom of a civilized community, and the murderer escape unpunished!! We hope not.

The haunts of these blood-hounds should be immediately broken up by an armed force, and their tenants brought to the bar of justice. The motto of our Volunteers is 'TOUJOURS PRET,' and we are satisfied they would not withhold their co-operation if solicited.

We understand that Mr. Hayes not long since removed from Campbell County, with the intention of proceeding to the Western country, and had taken up his residence temporarily in this county—that he was a farmer—a man of excellent character and highly esteemed.
