It is regarded as certain that the people of Phoenix will vote against gambling. In the campaign which closed last week the Royal Arch, an organization of saloon men became very prominent in an attempt to defeat Eugene Brady O'Neill, the democratic candidate for the council, because of his active work in opposition to public gambling two years ago.
O'Neill carried the city by a good majority. The leaders of both the democrats and republicans in Phoenix are enlisted in the effort to put gambling on the toboggan slide in Phoenix and the result cannot be said to be in much doubt.
The Royal Arch has opened the fight and the people may be relied upon to put the Royal Arch out of politics in Phoenix and in every other city where they make an attempt to butt into politics or to control local government.
