LONDON August 26.

When the King of Sweden received the manifesto of the Empress of Russia, he is said to have torn it, and to have expressed himself, in the presence of several general officers, as follows: "We shall see whether the descendant of the great Gustavus Adolphus is to be the vassal of Russia!"

Sept. 2. They write from Stockholm that an engagement had taken place between a detachment commanded by General Horticar, and a corps of Russian troops, who had gone to the relief of Nyflot; and that the Russians were repulsed with great loss, and left their dead on the field of battle, and amongst them a General with the order Newsky: It is supposed to be. General Michaeloff.

Europe is now so involved in a war, that it is not easy to determine on which side to direct the attention. Between Russia, the Emperor, and the Porte, upwards of nine hundred thousand men are in the field. ready for all the horrors, devastation, and mischief of eagerly contested war.
