Mr. Robertson's ascension.—Last evening Mr. Robertson made his promised night ascension in his new balloon from the interior of Castle Garden, before a numerous company of spectators. About sundown the process of inflation commenced, from which time till 9 o'clock several small balloons were let off, with a bengola light attached to each, that created much applause. Exactly at 10 o'clock, Mr. Robertson ascended the car, the balloon being now sufficiently inflated. On the word being given, the rope that held it down was thrown loose, and the aeronaut ascended majestically from the centre of the garden in the brilliant light of a piece of splendid fire works, and amidst the applause of the whole garden. He took almost a perpendicular direction. When his machine had attained a sufficient elevation, he threw out his fire-works in rapid succession, which presented a very novel, splendid appearance. His rockets in particular appeared to traverse the atmosphere like so many comets. We know nothing that could bear a closer resemblance to these wandering stars than the rockets when thrown from his car. A splendid star, which he exhibited, fell within 12 feet of the bridge. The night was very beautiful and almost calm—The moon had just risen. He ascended to a considerable height and apparently took the direction to New Jersey. The garden was extremely crowded—probably six thousand persons. The battery was also full of spectators.

P. S. Mr. Robertson descended at Flatbush, L. I. at half past 10 o'clock, and arrived at the garden at half past 11.
