His Exploits in Jackson, Tenn.—A Very Clever Professional.
Special Dispatch to The Appeal.
Jackson, Tenn., June 23.-About daylight this morning one of the boldest robberies was committed here ever known in the history of this place. A sneak-thief first entered Gauss's boarding-house and stole some jewelry, money and other valuables. He then went to the Arlington Hotel, which was near by, and entered through a window a room occupied by two brothers named Michael, from LaGrange, Tenn. One of the Michaels had a pistol in his pantaloons pocket lying on a chair. The thief first secured that. By this time the two men had awakened. They asked him what he was doing in there. He told them if they valued their lives to keep quiet, at the same time presenting the cocked pistol. The robber then made the two men take their vests from under their pillows and deliver up what money they had, which was $50, and a gold watch and chain worth $100. The robber then walked deliberately out of the room, down stairs, out on the street, carrying the pistol with him. The alarm was immediately given, but too late to capture the bold and daring thief, who is no doubt a professional.
