Dr Harvey W. Wiley, chief chemist of the Department of Agriculture, who is now in London, announces that he will visit Scotland and Ireland to inspect various whiskey distilleries to investigate their methods of manufacturing liquors intended for export to the United States. The interest which Dr Wiley takes in the subject of whiskey is well known and various sensational statements to the effect that all, or nearly all, Scotch and Irish whiskey imported into this country is adulterated along with ninety per cent. of American whiskey, have been attributed to him from time to time. The outcome of his visit to the Scotch-Irish distilleries will be awaited with much interest by the American distilleries and rectifiers whose product he has so unsparingly condemned.
