"General Wolfe's Army landed on the Isle of Orleans with the Loss of only one of Gorham's Rangers; soon after detached Brigadier Monckton, with 4000 Men to take Possession of Fort or Point Levee, which he effected with the Loss of a few Men picked off by the Indians in the March. He erected there two Batteries to play upon Quebec, at the Distance of 1 Mile and a quarter.--That the French have 3 different Encampments outside the Town, which our Men of War, Frigates and Bomb Ketches have obliged them to remove to a greater Distance from the Shoar: By the Number of Tents it's imagined they are 12000, and are encamped and entrenched on the Banks of the River St. Charles, which they seem determined to maintain, as General Wolfe must cross that River before he can invest the City: He was to land the whole Army the 8th ult. leaving the Batteries at Point Levee, with the Magazines on the Island of Orleans to be guarded by 4000 Marines and Sailors. --The French have 3 Frigates and 14 Transports, which brought few Troops and little Provision, as they were mostly laden with Merchandize, Wine, Brandy, &c."
