Full Text

A letter has been received by a gentleman in town from his friend in Virginia, stating that Mr. Madison lately speaking on the subject of the embargo, gave it as his opinion that "IT WOULD NOT BE TAKEN OFF FOR A TWELVEMONTH."

The intelligence reaches us in such a way as to leave no doubt of its correctness, and it is in perfect conformity with the repeated declarations of the President himself. It is a settled plan of policy, which will not be departed from, so long as the present rulers or others who harbor their anti-commercial prejudices remain in power.

The farmers of the country have but one way left to remove the cumbrous load, that sits like incubus upon them. They must repair to the polls at the approaching elections, with ballots in their hands for men who are known friends to peace and free trade.
