KNOXVILLE, (E. T.,) Sept. 9.
As we have some room left on this page, we will fill it by informing you that we have lately been over a good portion of East Tennessee; and wherever we have been we have found the democrats in the finest spirits, while it was very evident nothing of the kind was the case with the whigs. Governor A. V. Brown has but a few days since completed his list of appointments in this portion of the State. He has really outdone himself in this canvass; he has more than met the expectations of his friends, high indeed as they were, and the democrats are perfectly satisfied that to no abler hands could they have intrusted their cause. Hon. A. Johnson has taken the field, and is doing good service. Smith and Haynes,—but if we commence we may as well take up the list,—are all giving the most satisfactory accounts of the success of democracy. The whigs have declared no principles in this canvass—Gen. Taylor avows none, while Mr. Fillmore is known to be in favor of that firebrand of hell, the Wilmot Proviso. It is not strange that we should succeed; but would be, were it otherwise.
